Me
I'm a job seeking semi-tech saavy senior from Madison, WI and I thought I'd share resources and insights as I try to re-enter the workforce. I started by getting back into a program for low income seniors that places 55+ volunteers in non profits. It pays minimum wage so I'm barely scraping by. That may explain gathering all the free tech courses I can get my frugal little fingers on. I've gone to a few workshops at the RSVP office on the westside of Madison and am currently taking the free online courses through Google (see my Free Productivity Courses page for some solid Google, Apple and Microsoft options).
I've been a caterer, feature writer, relay operator and administrative assistant, my current position in the office that administers my senior back to work program. I miss the days when I baked for events in a kosher kitchen, stayed up until 3 after bartending all night and the research part of writing. Although I really enjoyed sending out press releases for the now defunct Civic Center and Wisconsin Union. My first job was selling Popsicles from a wobbly white cart that weighed as much as a Toyota Corolla and had no brakes. To this day I keep Popsicles in the freezer.
I graduated from Edgewood High School in Madison, went to school at the University of WI-La Crosse where I studied Theatre, Mass Communications, Spanish and English. Then I transferred to the University of WI in Madison after having way too much fun and graduated in Journalism and Theater. I later got an Associates Degree in Visual Communications from MATC (Madison College).
Now it's time to get serious.
